Trust and safety

What Zidi does to keep renters, hosts and cars safe, and what you can do. The Terms of Use have the full rules.
Checked people
- Renters upload their ID (both sides), driving licence and a selfie before their first request, and hosts before their first withdrawal. Zidi's team reviews every ID.
- Renters must be at least 21, with a driving licence held for at least 2 years.
- At pick-up, the host checks the renter's original ID against the name and the last 4 characters of the ID number shown in their app. Hosts never see ID photos, licence photos or selfies.
Checked cars
- Zidi checks each car's documents and inspects the car before renters can see it.
- Every car needs comprehensive insurance that allows self-drive hire, and a GPS tracker.
- Each listing shows the car's own photos and number plate, so renters know exactly which car they're booking.
A safe hand-over
- Each booking has a 4-digit pick-up code. The renter gives it to the host only at the car: the host can't hand over the keys without it, and 5 wrong codes lock the hand-over until Zidi unlocks it.
- The renter then has 30 minutes to look the car over, and can reject it with photos for a full refund if it isn't as described.
Safe payments
- Pay only in the app, through the M-Pesa prompt or by card on Paystack's secure page. Zidi never asks you to send money to a phone number.
- Zidi never sees your full card number: Paystack handles it.
- Hosts are paid only to an M-Pesa number in their own name, once Zidi has checked their ID.
Ratings and reviews
After a trip, renters rate the car and hosts rate the renter. A car's ratings show on its page; hosts see a renter's average when the renter asks for their car.
Watching for misuse
Zidi looks out for misuse, such as repeated rejections or no-shows, and may pause an account or a car to protect others. Zidi's team reviews every automatic flag before acting on it.
If something goes wrong
- An accident, breakdown, damage or theft: report it to the host and Zidi at once, and to the police where the law requires.
- Someone asks you to pay outside the app, or something about a booking doesn't feel right: don't pay, and tell Zidi.
- The car isn't as described: reject it in the app within 30 minutes of the hand-over, with photos.
The renter is responsible for damage, loss or theft during the rental up to KES 100,000 per incident, or the full cost if they broke the Terms or the host's terms. The Terms of Use explain this under Damage, accidents and insurance.
For anything else, contact Zidi: we aim to resolve problems within 14 days.
